Tampon trial and error

Published by tmiqueen at 3:51 pm under periods Edit This

I’m jumping around here on my timeline so stay with me, okay? You know about my pad experience so now let’s move onto my natural progression to tampons. When I was in my late teens I decided to try using tampons. I had no idea what I was missing. It was so much easier to deal with than those bulky pads. (Back then I was still using those blasted maxis.) I did have some issues in adjusting to using them. Here are my trial and error tips for dealing with them:

The main problem I had with them is that sometimes (not all), I’d feel them after insertion. I discovered that it was because I wasn’t inserting them deeply enough. That’s the only time I’d feel it. If I ever felt it, I needed to remove it and try again. It’s all in the angling. Leaving the bathroom and trying to ignore the uncomfortable feeling down there will have you quickly turning back. I also found out that inserting them while seated on the toilet or with a foot planted on a raised surface increased the likelihood of getting an improper insert. Inserting while standing and knees slightly bent gets a deep insert all the time. Inserting on the toilet is almost like pushing against a brick wall. Also, many times I had trouble inserting using cardboard tampons (especially during heavier flow days) even while standing. It was difficult getting a firm grip. Heavy days can cause quite a slippery situation when trying to insert. Some brands are worse than others when it comes to grip ability. More experimenting helped me to find that getting a grip with a plastic applicator makes a much smoother insert.
